Conserving Earth's Gentle Giants

Redwood trees in California have long fallen victim to logging and fast-paced development. Many ancient coast redwood forests have been lost since 1850. The Save the Redwoods League built a GIS-based conservation model, then used Esri's ArcGIS software to analyze data and map detailed conservation strategies for these ancient, majestic trees. GIS helps the league's staff identify parcels of land it should consider purchasing, thereby protecting the redwoods for future generations to see and enjoy. Read the article.
